Veg Samosa

Tasty veg samosa recipe is here!

Serves: 8-9 samosas
Preparation time - 40 minutes
Cooking Time - 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

FILLING:
Potato- 1 no.( large size)
Peas - 1/4 cup
Onion- 1/2 cup(Diced finely)
Ginger - 1 tea spoon(Diced finely)
Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Salt - As required.

OUTER LAYER:
All purpose flour/Maida - 1 1/2 cup
salt-1/2 teaspoon
Butter-1 1/2 tablespoon
Baking soda - a pinch

METHOD:
1. Take all purpose flour in a bowl. Add salt and baking soda and mix well. Heat butter in a pan and pour it over the flour.

2. Add water little by little , and make dough. Keep it covered and allow it rest for 20 minutes.

3. Dice onion  and ginger finely.

4. Keep potatoes in pressure cooker in high flame for  1 whistle. Then keep in full sim for 10 minutes and switch off the gas. Allow it cool down and take it out. Mash the potatoes nicely.

5. In a pan, add 2 tablespoon oil. Once heated, add cumin seeds .

6. Add onion and ginger and fry till they turn golden brown.

7. Now add green peas, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt.

8.Add some water and mix well and cook until green peas turn soft. I have used frozen peas. So it took just 5 minutes for peas to get cooked.

9. Add mashed potatoes and mix well. samosa filling is ready.

10. Now it is time to make samosa. Take a lemon-size ball of dough. You can make 2 samosas out of it.

11. Roll it flat in to a medium sized rotti. Don't roll it very thin as it would break when you deep fry in oil.

12. Cut in to 2 halves vertically.

13. Take one half in your palm as below.

14. Roll it as a cone , with the straight part comes in bottom part of cone and the circular part comes over the top. Seal the bottom well with your hands , so the filling will not come out if you put it in.

15. Put the potato filling inside and press. Do not add too much filling, as it would comes out when you deep fry.

16. Use some water and apply it on the edges and seal it well.

17. Place all samosas on plate and cover it with plastic wrapper and refrigerate it for about 15 minutes.

18. Heat oil in a pan well. Once heated, turn the flame to full sim and deep fry each samosas till golden brown. It takes about approximately 5 minutes for each samosa to be cooked.

19. Tasty samosas are ready !. For inside filling , alternatively you can use potato and peanut instead of green peas .
