Masala Vadai

This is my first attempt towards masala/paruppu vadai .. and luckily , though not perfect, it came out as whole vadai without breaking :P... This is a tasty southindian snack, that goes  well with milk tea...Try this evening snack at your home and enjoy this winter!.

Serves: 15 vadais
Preparation Time - 4 hours(Dal soaking time)
Cooking Time - 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS:
Bengal Gram/Channa dal/Kadalai paruppu - 1/2 cup(120 gms) + 1/2 tablespoon
(Soaked for 4 hours in cold water)
Fresh Red or green chilli -1 no.
( I  used very spicy one. If you are using normal green chilli, you can use 2 no.s)
Fennel seeds/Sombu - 1 teaspoon
Coriander - 1/4 cup(Chopped finely)
Onion-1/4 cup(Chopped finely)
Ginger - 1 inch sized(Chopped finely)
Garlic- 3 to 4 cloves
Rice flour - 1/2 tablespoon
Salt- As required.

METHOD:

1. Soak 1/2 cup of channa dal, 1/2 table spoon of channa dal separately for 4 hours. Cut onion, ginger, garlic, red chilli, corriander finely.

2. In mixer, first take ginger, garlic, red chilli and fennel seeds . Grind them in to a coarse mixture without adding water.

3. Now drain the water in channa dal completely and add them in the mixer and grind them in to a  paste. Do not add water while grinding. You can add channa dal in 3 proportions , so that it gets grinded well.

4. Now add Rice flour, 1/2 tablespoon soaked channa dal, onion, coriander leaves , salt and mix well.

5. Heat oil in tawa. Now take lemon sized ball and make it flat round shape in your hands.

6. Deep fry in oil. It takes some time for it to cook inside. Approximately it takes about 4 minutes for each set to cook. Keep the flame in medium high .

7. Masala vadai is ready . Have it with milk tea or even as a side dish with sambar rice. Check my blog for sambar rice recipe !
